Foscam VMS - Video Management System

Foscam VMS - Video Management System

258

One handy tool that in my opinion is often overlooked is the Foscam VMS, or Video Management System. Every Foscam owner should have this free software installed on at least one of their pc’s or laptops.

It’s available for both Windows or Mac, click to download. There is a new Beta version available but more on that once its finished.

In my case I have it installed my old work laptop, it goes everywhere with. This handy piece of software frees you from plugins and combines multiple tools in to one.

It can:

Replace the equipment finder tool by finding all your Foscam cameras on your local LAN.
Be used to setup and configure your cameras or NVR without having to use a web browser. This is a big plus as often its painful installing the relevant browser plugins, setting the correct permissions, etc only to find your browser of choice is not supported.
Be used to upgrade the firmware.
Be used to view the cameras live, again without a web browser. Even remotely!!!!
Be used as a software NVR, it can use your devices hard drives to record to. I would recommend installing a second dedicated hard drive if you plan to use it as 24/7 NVR.
Allows to you playback from the following:
SD card inserted into the device
NVR’s hard drive
Local recordings from your hard drive.
Supports up 36 devices, channels. You can from one central place view and manage your cameras for different locations.
Very handy if you have for example.
A NVR at home with 8 cameras.
A NVR at you holiday home with 4 cameras.
2 Cameras at your office.
3 Cameras at your parents place.

Below is the Foscam VMS Quick Setup Guide to help you along. NB!!! Remember, if you want to view or connect to your camera or NVR remotely like I do from my laptop, when adding devices choose the p2p method.
